One of the most famous objects in London, UK also has a lot of misunderstandings surrounding it. While many people refer to the whole tower at the north end of the Palace of Westminster as Big Ben, it is actually the bell of the tower that is Big Ben. The official name of the tower is the Clock Tower or, as it was renamed in 2012, Elizabeth Tower. The Bell was made in Stockton-on-Tees in 1856 and weighted 16 tons.
Buckingham Palace is world-wide famous whether you’re a local or live half way around the world. It’s the official place for all state and royal occasions. It was built in 1903. Originally privately-owned by the Duke of Buckingham, the palace was acquired by King George II in 1761 while in 1837 it became the official London residence of the monarchs of England.
